If you didn’t already know, this blog gave us the chance to publish a cookbook, The Einkorn Cookbook, all about the world’s most ancient form of wheat. It also birthed an ebook, more along the lines of the posts of this site, which tells the story of how we met. Below, read more about these books.
In 2012, Shanna self-published the vulnerable story of how we met and this blog got started. The ebook Written Together: A Story of Beginnings, in the Kitchen and Beyond was a learning experience. We looked at it as an experiment, a way to share more of our background, an opportunity to test out the idea of publishing something off the blog on our own. Some kind friends and fellow bloggers gave their endorsements, some of you went and bought it and we learned a lot. It’s listed for a kind of high price on Amazon now because it’s personal. Sometimes we wonder if it’s too personal. So at least now, if someone’s going to hear that much personal info, he or she probably really wants to.
The Einkorn Cookbook
A year later, we were approached by a publisher about writing a book. It would be about einkorn. We’d been talking about einkorn here. There weren’t yet any books about einkorn on the market. So, a year after that, The Einkorn Cookbook (Fair Winds Press), a book we wrote and photographed together, came into the world.
The Einkorn Cookbook is all about einkorn, the ancient grain some have called original wheat. It gives you more than 100 recipes for putting the nonhybridized grain into breakfasts, breads, pizza dough, cookies and more. Writing a cookbook for a publisher, in contrast to writing a short ebook on our own, is something we tell friends that, for us, was like going back to school. Another learning experience! Life is filled with them! We learned about photography. We learned about good recipe instructions. We learned how much long, hard work it takes to make a cookbook that someone can go buy at the store. We didn’t have an agent or a book proposal we’d been building for months. We had open minds. Now that the project is behind us, we’re thankful Fair Winds Press gave us the chance. Learn more about The Einkorn Cookbook here.
