Food Loves Writing calendar for May and June 2010

Happy December! To inaugurate the last month of this year, the one in which we celebrate Advent and Christmas and Hanukkah and all the other holidays, I’ve brought you a present. And if the above photo didn’t tip you off to what it is, this will: it’s a free calendar download, 12 months of cookies.

The way I see it, this is the next best thing to monthly homemade baked goods at your doorstep, which I really wish I could give each and every one of you, I sincerely do, but this is what I’m offering until I figure out a way to make that happen. Simply download the pdf, print it out on quality paper, cut out the months and voila:

I punched little holes in the top of each one and have January up at my bulletin board at work, with the other months behind it, but you could do something different: hang them all at once along a wire with clothespins, tape the current month to the side of your computer monitor… I don’t know. If you find a cool way to use yours, e-mail me a photo so I can show everybody else.

    Before You Download:

  • The download is big. It is a large six-page PDF, so I’m sorry it takes a while to load.
  • If you cannot open it, e-mail me.
  • PRINT IT ON LANDSCAPE or it will cut off the calendar.
  • Like everything else on this site, the calendar is protected by copyright. It may be downloaded and printed for personal use, but it may not be sold or used commercially without permission from me.
  • Please spread the word! It’s FREE!

  1. This looks amazing, and if my color printer was working I would be all over it. I love homemade items like this.

I have to tell you, I was staring down my annual cookie exchange coming THIS weekend, needing to bake 8 dozen cookies and I had NO plan. For someone like me, who lives to bake cookies each Christmas, it was a sad feeling. Where was my motivation? Thankfully I came across this post, which led me to your Vanilla Spice Cookies and suddenly the light came on and I have purpose once again. Thanks for the perfect timing.

  2. ohmygosh shanna what a great idea! i need a calendar at work so this is perfect! although staring at cookies all day may not be the best way to get work done…but maybe they’ll just inspire me to buy a cookie sheet? :)

    happy december!

  3. Thanks, Whitney! And thanks for RTing it on Twitter, too!

Kate, Eight dozen cookies! That sounds terrifying and wonderful! Hope you enjoy the vanilla spice cookies – they are best right out of the oven and have such an incredible smell.

Jacqui, Yay! If this moves you towards purchasing a cookie sheet, it was all worth it. (You are always amazing me.)

Hannah, Yay! Hope you love it!

Amanda, You’re so sweet. I hope you like this!

  4. The brown butter sables were excellent. I made a half batch in the morning and by noontime, my family was requesting more! I found that letting the dough sit on the counter for an hour before forming the balls made for easier rolling. Also, when I was reaching for the vanilla to make the second batch, I noticed a small bottle of natural maple flavor that had been sitting on my shelf. I used a few drops in place of the vanilla and WOW! The maple and the nuttiness of the brown butter worked perfectly together. Thanks for putting together the calendar and thanks for the recipes.
